We are still here and the numbers continue to climb: nearly 3000 signatures when you add the support at the Facebook page! Recently, Lillooet Mayor Marg Lampman attended the annual Union of BC Municipalities conference where she discussed the passenger rail service with Transportation Minister Trevana and the Board of the Squamish Lillooet Regional District. Mayor Lampman said, “I talked about the concept, need and possibilities of a passenger rail service from North Vancouver to Prince George. Minister Trevana was intrigued and interested in the proposal and she has committed to understand more about it. She is an advocate of getting people out of their cars and I am hopeful that she will be someone I can work with to keep moving this forward. My committee is trying to get a date for a meeting with VIA Rail and we are ready to discuss this proposal with them at any time.” Also, BC Transit recently released their final draft report on the Sea to Sky Regional Transit study which proposes to invest in infrastructure and increase bus service between Vancouver and Pemberton. We wonder why the transit planning stopped there. Lillooet is close to Pemberton and in dire need of ANY public transit options….
