The petition has cracked an extraordinary 200,000 signatories, which is a great sign of how strongly the public feel on this issue. And there are more and more signs that members of the NSW government are getting the message.
Over the weekend, the NSW Deputy Premier John Barilaro - a reasonable man - said in the media "If there is red hot anger out there, we've got to actually take that on board" --- saying the government hasn't yet made a final decision on the $ 2billion #StadiumSplurge plan.
The NSW government is filled with reasonable people, who get it, who understand the insanity of prioritising elite sporting businesses at the expense of what actually counts. But we need to make sure Deputy Premier Barilaro and other cabinet ministers are aware of our "red hot anger" at this extraordinary waste of taxpayer money, which should be going to hospitals, schools, and local sports clubs.
The way forward then?
Leave a respectful message at the Deputy Premier's office, expressing your respectful views. (There is seriously no upside with abuse, whatever your emotions.)
You can dial him on 02 85745150 now and say to him, what so many of you have said to me: you want to see the $2 billion stadium splurge rejected and put back into health, education and local facilities. Say thanks. Easy as that.
The cabinet is likely to discuss this plan this week, so we need to act now.
If enough voters like you and me speak up there's a real chance we can kill off the #StadiumSplurge and put that money back into ailing health, education and community facilities.
Thanks for your support.
Peter Fitz
P.S. Can you help do more? Email the other ministers who'll be making this decision. I repeat: there are a lot of people in the NSW government who get it, who understand. But we need to arm their reasoning, with the expressions of our views. Here's a website with all their contact details: https://www.parliament.nsw.gov.au/members/pages/ministers.aspx
