Save the World - START HERE!

Not many people are aware how bad things have already become. Just take a look at a satellite photo of Australia and you'll get an idea - the eastern half of NSW was almost all massive old growth forest and is now just a few small islands of largely trashed scrub. When the Wran government took its cabinet to view logging back in the '80s they banned all rainforest logging immediately - but there were less than 1,000 hectares of completely intact rainforest left in the entire State! For the next twenty years environmentalists struggled to wrest decent protection for the remaining Old Growth and managed to save around a quarter of the area that's now believed by scientists to be necessary for the survival of our unique endangered wildlife. Now the remaining native forests are being totally destroyed - the Newspeak term is 'clear felled' - along with all the animals in them! NO habitat trees are being kept. Natural forests are being turned to 'plantations' on illegally steep slopes using techniques and in places that seasoned foresters see as inept madness. The soil, clay and rocks is all rushing away - into the catchments of our already trashed waterways - rendering them undrinkable and too shallow to support fish, tortoises or platypus that still somehow survive. Plantations are routinely sprayed with biocides - in our rivers' upper catchments! Only very few of us are actually witnessing the destruction, lawfal and illegal, that's going on every day n our surviving forests. Hardly anyone knows. Soon there'll be little left to save and protect.
