Hi Supporters!
I wanted to update you on some of the work that has been going on behind the scenes, particularly in the National Conversion Ideology and Practices Research Project (with La Trobe University).
So far, the researchers have published numerous articles about their findings, including Healing Spiritual Harms: Supporting recovery from LGBTQA+ Change and Suppression Practices, Better understanding of the scope and nature of LGBTQA+ religious conversion practices will support recovery, and Religious Conversion Practices and LGBTQA + Youth
Part of the research involves a groundbreaking survey into the religious experiences of LGBTQA+ Australians. It is the most expansive survey ever conducted into Australians’ exposure to conversion ideology and practices.
The survey is closing soon so I wanted to share it with you and ask you to please complete it if you can. Please also share it with your friends/family for whom it is relevant. To participate, you must be at least 18, identify as LGBTQA+ (or as being either a sexual minority or gender diverse), and live in Australia. (You do not need to be religious!)
As you know, we are still waiting on most states and territories in Australia to enact quality legislation to stop the harm of conversion practices, and the data from this survey will be invaluable to help us advocate for it.
You can find the survey here.
Thank you for your continued support. We are nearly at 100,000 signatures!
Chris

Researchers at ARCSHS (in collaboration with Macquarie University the Australian GBLTQI+ Multicultural Council, and Brave Network) are conducting a nation-wide survey exploring LGBTQA+ Australians' experiences with religion and faith.
We are interested in hearing from people with a full range of experiences, including participation in organized religion, personal relationships with spirituality and faith, engaging with faith-based organisations (such as religious schools), and experiences with conversion practices. To participate, you must be at least 18, identify as LGBTQA+ (or as being either a sexual minority or gender diverse), and live in Australia.
Please note: You do NOT need to be religious to participate. You can be currently or formerly religious, interested in organised or informal versions of religion, or never have been religious or be against religion! We are interested in positive and negative experiences with religion.
This research has been approved by the La Trobe Human Research Ethics Committee (HEC21323) as well as the Community Research Ethics Panels at ACON (ACON:202141) and Thorne Harbour (THH/CREP 21-018R).
