Thanks to everyone who tuned in to watch Christians Like Us these last two weeks. If you missed it, it’s on SBS On Demand.  I’m glad it’s aired finally. Thank you all for watching and for supporting me. It was a harder experience than I thought it would be, and at times was bloody frustrating (and even harder to watch again in some ways). I’ve really really appreciated all the kind messages I've received from you and others who watched.

Through the show, I had the privilege of sharing my experience of LGBT+ conversion pseudo-therapies and ideologies with Australia. Not everyone who has survived conversion therapy gets to be heard in that way, and I’m so grateful for the opportunity. I’m also grateful for the support from most of my Christians Like Us housemates, who stopped for a moment to really listen and try to understand my story.

Tweet to Scott Morrison and ask him to denounce conversion therapy

Sadly, the reaction of some people shows just how much work there is left to do - questioning the validity of academic evidence and doubting the amount of harm caused by the LGBT+ Conversion movement. We need to continue telling our stories so that people in faith communities, and the politicians who could work with us to end the harm, understand: a gay/bi/trans/queer person cannot be 'cured' and they do not need to be.

We are not 'sick'. We are not 'possessed'. We are not 'broken'.

I hope Christians Like Us has helped to show Australia that Christianity is diverse. There are fundamentalists, as well as progressives and all those in between. There are Christians from an array of cultural backgrounds.

And there are LGBT+ Christians.

I hope the people of faith watching the show heard that message too. I also hope that people in faith communities across Australia were challenged to engage with the issue of LGBT+ conversion, and to think carefully about the kids in their congregations, some of whom are/will be LGBT+, who may hear the conversion ideology that I did growing up. I hope they are challenged to consider the damage it may be causing.

PM Scott Morrison (himself a Christian) had this to say about conversion therapy:

“It's just not an issue for me and I'm not planning to get engaged in the issue”

I would like to see the PM get engaged with the issue of conversion therapy.

Tweet to Scott Morrison and ask him to denounce conversion therapy

Click the link above to send this message via Twitter: "@ScottMorrisonMP you've said that 'gay conversion' therapy is "not an issue" for you. But it's an issue for all of us - especially in faith communities. We ask you to denounce LGBT+ conversion & commit to a strategy for change. See the statement http://socesurvivors.com.au/"

Please continue to share the petition and to speak with others about the issue. Write to your local MP's and tell them how vital it is that they take a stand on this issue.

Thank you as always for your continued support for survivors of LGBT+ conversion.

Chris
