Hello and thank you for signing the petition!

We are nearly 800 people strong as of today and that means a lot to our effort. Thank you also to everyone who showed up in person on Friday to meet with the Township. It was not official public comment, but we were able to gain information and share concerns.

At the Township meeting on Friday, staff explained that the preliminary approval on the site plan has been made and now they are awaiting changes to be submitted based on commission feedback. If those changes are made, then they have to approve the permit based on the fact that the proposal meets all current zoning requirements.

However, there are two additional approvals needed for the project to continue and now YOUR voice is needed.

The next steps in the process of permitting Dollar General are the land division approval at the Township. You can still submit your thoughts to Leslie Sikterman, Township Planner, at planner@longlaketownship.com.

Also, we need to make sure the Grand Traverse County Road Commission knows that the traffic study submitted by Dollar General is not representative enough for this seasonally-impacted intersection and needs to be reconsidered. It was done on a Tuesday in July during two hours in the morning and two hours in the afternoon. This doesn't account for the pressures of a busy boating weekend nor when schools are in session.

In addition, we need a commitment that our iconic rock wall will not be impacted by the semi-truck traffic that will be inevitable with a new commercial development. Call them directly at 231-922-4848. They are open from 7:30-4:30, Monday through Friday.

Thank you again for taking action and signing the petition!
