Subject: URGENT CALL TO VOTE A2880 – STILLBIRTH

Dear Speaker Heastie and Assembly Counsel,

We are asking that you bring A2880 to an immediate vote in the Assembly to include stillbirth as a qualifying event for Paid Family Leave to secure justice for women in New York who experience stillbirth. Currently, stillbirth mothers are having their previously approved PFL revoked after their baby dies. As you are already aware, stillbirth is two times more likely to occur to black women who make up the majority of your constituents. Additionally, the bill currently has 98 co-sponsors and unanimously passed the senate on March 9, 2023. 

It would be unconscionable to withhold an important piece of legislation and would result in the victimization of thousands of stillbirth mothers between now and the next session. Please do the right thing and esure A2880 is brought to a vote before the end of the 2023 legislative session on June 9, 2023.
