You are receiving this email because on in June, 2020, you supported a petition to remove the statue of Edmund Barton from a Birpai burial site in Guruk or so-called Port Macquarie. You supported this along with 4379 others, and although Barton is still there- I thank you for your support.

Folks, Barton was a co-author in the white Australia policy which was a "gate keeping" mechanism that considered people who were not white- "less than". The statue doesn't represent history, it represents what we want to share our community values are in the present. It is outdated. White supremacy needs to be only in history, yet it is alive in Australia, and in Guruk Port Macquarie, as a community, the presence of the statue says, "we glorify racists". 

This Saturday join many others to come together, to yarn in circle, followed by a connected picnic (feel free to bring a rug and some lunch) to show that we gather in solidarity. We are proud of the diversity of our community, sovereignty was never ceded, this always was and always will be Birpai land- always and forever.
