#AyudanosFrancisco Save Our Churches
The Issue
Please stop the indiscriminate sale of churches in Philadelphia
Since his installation as leader of the Catholic Church in Philadelphia on September of 2011, Archbishop Chaput has destroyed the "houses" of many catholic families. In almost all the closures of churches, parishioners have been forced to play a non-existing role and when the parishioners are outspoken they are viewed as a treat and are never invited to even express their legitimate concerns.
In early July, Pope Francis visited 3 Latin American countries and in several occasions during his homilies he exhorted to all Catholics, and specially to the young, to defend their faith. In Bolivia Pope Francis sent a warning to the kind of attitudes that the archdiocese of Philadelphia has demonstrated along the past few years, “Once capital becomes an idol and guides people’s decisions, once greed for money presides over the entire socioeconomic system, it ruins society, it condemns and enslaves men and women, it destroys human fraternity, it sets people against one another, and, as we clearly see, it even puts at risk our common home" Pope Francis: Speech at World Meeting of Popular Movements
In September of 2015, the catholic families that are currently "without a house" because their home Parish has been closed, are hoping that Pope Francis will hear our voices. The parishioners from La Milagrosa the first Latino church (closed two years ago), in conjunction with members from Saint Joachim in Frankford, Saint Laurentius in Fishtown, and Saint Peter Claver in South Philly are inviting you to sign our petition and to help us deliver a message to Pope Francis denouncing the injustices that have been committed by the leadership of the Catholic church in Philadelphia. Please support our "Walk For Justice" on September 20th and fast with us in solidarity. More information to be found on our Facebook page at Salvemos La Milagrosa We also want to remind Archbishop Chaput that although he thinks that "faith does not pay the bills" we believe that if his faith was the size of a mustard seed he, then, will see things in a very different way.
