Constable Liam Forster and Senior Constable David Murray of the Whitsundays Police have been named as the officers who shot and killed our son on 1st October 2022.

Part of the BWC transcript was read out at Pre Inquest showing how the officers asked Luke what he had as he walked past them covering his small penknife clipped to his belt with his right hand (The penknife had a blade of 70mm and must not be confused with the total length of the unfolded knife which in includes the handle as mentioned in this article).

He said “Shoot me, I dare you” and they drew their firearms immediately….18 seconds later our son was shot dead….see the news article here.

The officers who shot and killed our son had other options they could’ve used without putting themselves or others in danger but they CHOSE not to. Their actions not only KILLED Luke but also ENDANGERED the lives of the public with two bullets going through the windows of two parked vehicles in the street.

They FAILED in their duty of care to someone who was intoxicated and denied Luke his RIGHT TO LIFE and PROTECTION from cruel, inhuman and degrading treatment under the human rights act. 

Based on the law, and police are NOT above the law, they should be arrested and charged like anyone else.

The investigation should be completely INDEPENDENT and all the evidence should then be presented to a jury for them to judge…
