Today I was invited as the Chief Guest of Honor to inaugurate the Divyangjan Project by Mathrubhumi News at Ernakulam Junction in Kerala. It’s amazing to know that my campaign, #MyTrainToo, was the sole inspiration behind this project. They have made permanent ramps at Ernakulam Junction, along with portable ramps to board trains, small wheelchairs to get inside the trains, they have sensitized the luggage porters by training them how to assist disabled passengers, along with that they have an electronic cart/buggy that will transport disabled and elderly passengers to their trains, have created disabled friendly lounges (including an AC lounge), and wheelchair friendly washrooms, all within a six month period. They’ve handed over this project to the railways and they’ll be implementing the same facilities to other stations all over Kerala. They and I are optimistic that other states in India will also follow lead! This is an amazing feat for disability rights and inclusivity! Way to go, Ernakulam and special thanks to Mathrubhumi News for starting this movement after reading about my campaign! None of this would be possible without the support that #MyTrainToo has garnered! Congratulations!
