In July 2022, the Drugs Controller General of India granted market authorization to the Serum Institute of India (SII) to manufacture the indigenous HPV vaccine.

"The first indigenously developed quadrivalent Human Papilloma Virus (qHPV) vaccine for prevention of cervical cancer, which is expected to hit the shelves over the next few months" said Adar Poonawalla (CEO - SII).
