The recently concluded APEC in the Philippines has failed to translate into action what the government of Canada intends to do with the previously imported trash to the Philippines. Instead of answering directly the issue on the previously imported garbage in the Philippines, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau directed on future legislations. People ask me, "Why Trudeau? He is such a hottie, a cutie, so why him? He has only been around for a month so spare him the trouble - let us give him time." Yes, he has only been elected in power for a short while. Prior to that though, he must have been aware of the pressing environmental issues that Canada is involved in. In fact, climate change was a focus of his campaign slogan. I am still hopeful with the statement of PM Trudeau on his plan to fight climate change. In the upcoming Conference of Parties to be conducted in Paris next week, I shall wait for his pronouncements and more tangible policies on this. Perhaps initiating a definite action on the previously imported Canadian waste dumping in the Philippines is a start to make us realize that indeed a solution to mitigate the effects of climate change is not that far.
