Happy Canada Day! While Canada is enjoying its country’s birthday, the Philippines is wallowing in problems about the 98 container vans of garbage imported from the land of the maple leaf.
To date, the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) has conducted waste analysis and characterization study (WACS ) on the new batch of garbage recently discovered in the port of Manila. DENR was quoted as saying that the composition of waste in the newly shipped container vans is the same as in the previous batch. Both contain community wastes and mixed recyclable materials.
The Canadian Embassy in the Philippines has been very silent and mum on the issue. It seems that the only option Prime Minister Harper and Ambassador Neil Reeder has is to ignore the issue and wait for the Philippine government to finally throw the imported Canadian garbage in one of its landfills.
We have received reports that container vans bearing the same likeness and identification marks as those that contain the Canadian imported garbage has been entering the Clark Metro landfill for possible disposal.
We are relentless on our call: Canada take back your garbage, show us the decency and courtesy we deserve.
