Another German giant corporation in our area - German needed yet you think?

Daniela KinsbourneRidgefield, CT, United States

The new merger of Linden and Praxair in our neighboring town. Yet another large corporation settling in CT that will have German origins besides giants such as Beiersdorf, Boehringer Ingelheim and Henkel! Yet our high school deemed their successful German language program worthy of being cut instead of promoting it to set our students apart. I guess we have to point it out again: German is among the most extensively spoken languages in the whole world. It is the official language of numerous countries, including Belgium, Switzerland, Austria and, obviously, Germany! Next to the English language, it is one of the main accepted languages in European Union. The German language is the third most taught foreign language in the US (well apparently not in Ridgefield anymore!), following French and Spanish. Many Americans can track their cultural heritage back to German origins, providing much of a social history lesson. There are a lot of motives for learning the German language including possible career prospects and present career enrichment. We would like to see our German program installed again to Middle school to help further our children's career prospect in engineering, stem, science and so on. Thank you!
