Andrew's Toronto Globe and Mail story was published February 17, 2024. It is titled, A P.E.I. "mama bear" isn't done fighting. The story is available behind the Globe and Mail paywall. It also addresses my efforts to lobby for a CTO amendment in the 2024 legislature spring session.
Hope you have TIME ON YOUR HANDS to read my Facebook post. At the CRACK OF DAWN each day I write my post. I research the idioms, phrases and metaphors AHEAD OF TIME.
It is ABOUT TIME that the PC government amended the Community Treatment Order. The PC government is BEHIND THE TIMES, as New Brunswick has the most flexible CTO in Canada. While P.E.I. has the most restrictive CTO in Canada!
Were they PRESSED FOR TIME and did not do their research? Do you believe a STITCH IN TIME SAVES TIME? I believe this is true. The PC government should have thoroughly considered the consequences of a restrictive CTO, as now they have created a BIG problem. Many mentally ill Islanders will NOT qualify for the P.E.I. CTO. This will be putting people’s lives at risk. I do not believe Andrew will qualify.
I think the PC government wishes they could TURN BACK THE HANDS OF TIME and legislated the N.B. CTO model. It is a MATTER OF TIME before someone is severely hurt or dies due to the lack of a CTO that does not meet the needs of the mentally ill.
A CTO ensures that Islanders stay on their medications in the community and away from the revolving door hospital system. Their symptom of anosognosia causes them to cease medications and make bad decisions.
TIME IS OF THE ESSENCE! We must get the CTO amended in the 2024 spring session and not AFTER 24 months, as suggested by Hon. Mark McLane. Perhaps at the ELEVENTH HOUR they will rectify this situation. IN THE BLINK OF AN EYE there can be a missed amendment opportunity.
ONLY TIME WILL TELL. Will there be a CTO amendment? DO YOU THINK THE PC GOVERNMENT WILL DO THE RIGHT THING?
