UPDATE FEBRUARY 16, 2024:
THE THEME TODAY IS TRAVEL.
The recent snow storm on P.E.I. put TRAVEL on the minds of many Islanders who are now thinking of a vacation to the sunny south.

Our son, Andrew, had been living homeless on the streets of Toronto. Minister of Health and Wellness, Mark McLane, signed the P.E.I. Ministerial Order medically transferring our son home to the Island.

But then THE WHEELS FELL OFF, as the PC Party, who WERE IN THE DRIVER’S SEAT, voted for the most restrictive Community Treatment Order in Canada. Our family and many other Islanders HIT A MAJOR ROADBLOCK!

The CTO ensures that the mentally ill stay on their medications, healthy in the community. I have been lobbying daily to get a CTO amendment in the 2024 spring session. The PC Party has come to a FORK IN THE ROAD where they have difficult choices, whether to amend the CTO, and potentially save lives, or CROSS THAT BRIDGE WHEN THEY COME TO IT!

As a parent, I believe I have the THIRTY THOUSAND FOOT VIEW, as I see the whole picture and perspective of the situation. I have had a ROCKY ROAD getting our son home and now the CTO Amendment has proven to be more than A BUMP IN THE ROAD.

I have been relying ON A WING AND A PRAYER that the PC Party will JUMP ON THE BANDWAGON and amend the CTO, following the model of the New Brunswick CTO, which is very flexible. This is a sound TRAIN OF THOUGHT. Otherwise, if the PC Party does not make the amendment, I see a potential TRAIN WRECK, where things will TURN FOR THE WORSE, and lives will potentially be lost.

I do not want the PC Party to MISS THE BOAT on a golden opportunity to amend the CTO. I believe the PC Party will SHIFT GEARS and there will be a LIGHT AT THE END OF THE TUNNEL for Islanders. We must achieve the CTO amendment, in the 2024 spring session. It would be JUST THE TICKET!

A community treatment order ensures that a mentally ill person stays on their medication and provides them with a healthy life in the community. P.E.I. now has a CTO, but it is so restrictive that Andrew and many others will not qualify.

The present CTO is like giving a battery operated truck to a child without the battery. And saying, "The truck is good enough for now, I will give you the battery to operate it after "24" months." The P.E.I. CTO is as useless as this!

In my opinion, I do not believe that the PC Party Ministers and MLAs realized the negative impact the restrictive CTO would have on Islanders, like Andrew and others. I believe in my heart they will amend the CTO in the 2024 Spring Session, because it is the RIGHT THING TO DO!
