We’ve gathered over 1500 signatures and over seventy letters of support! Thank you!!
With your help, we were able to stop the 12 micro-unit apartment from being built in the rear yard of a historic home, get some patch repairs on the red brick brick road and get a commitment from the City to restore Hessler Court in spring/summer 2023.
We’ve had some wins but our multiple requests to the City to address: stormwater management problems, tree canopy loss, excessive demand for parking that results in vehicles driving onto and crushing stone curbs/sidewalks, and impact from heavy construction, have all have been ignored. We were unable to stop our first demolition in the District at the hands of the developer, UCI and the City, in preparation for the micro-unit apartment.
The developer, UCI, and the City, again returned to the Hessler community on 10-26-22, with a new development proposal for a six unit, three bedroom each, apartment building, to be added onto the historic home, in its rear yard. The developer uses a rent by the room business model and charges $1000/bedroom.
With no measures in place to protect the district, no acknowledgment of the detriment of the development to the Street Fair, and no commitment to mitigate past damage done by the developer to the District, the City is rapidly pushing the development proposal through the City processes. At the same time, the developer and the City have asked the Hessler community not to post about it on social media.
As long as the City tries to silence us and ignores our demands for protection and for development that is both compatible with the District and respects the Street Fair, we ask that you please share this petition and spread the word.
Thank you for your ongoing support!
