Warm congratulations to all the wonderful, generous people who made possible the new video that appeared today about the history, present and future of our dear Old Vilna Jewish Cemetery here in the capital of modern, democratic Lithuania. It was so heartwarming to be able to hear both Prof. Shnayer Leiman, the major scholar on the cemetery, and the American Jewish leader Malcolm Hoenlein. Meanwhile, here (this gets more incredible by the month!) the authorities, keeping their eye on our petition, thanks to all of you, have offered to "add a new Jewish museum" to the new convention center to make it all (pseudo) kosher, as if the desecration of our sacred old Vilna cemetery can be fixed by adding a museum (which is of course more desecration, the cemetery is not the place for a museum!) And finally, for today, please (a) Think about how more groups, organizations and synagogues can help build the momentum of ever more SIGNATURES on our petition which is for now, in partnership with colleagues here and around the world, continuing to keep the bulldozers at bay (but we don't know for how long...); and (b) CONTACTING YOUR ELECTED OFFICIALS, asking them to write to the leaders of Lithuania (or its embassy in your country) politely asking that the convention center project be moved to another venue where all people can enjoy it and where it will bring great honor to our country.
