Copied from OSO: ”August 11, 2012
Core members of OSO met this evening to discuss a path forward in light of the overturning of the Eddie Jones Warehouse, Manufacturing and Distribution Facility appeal from the May 21,2025, Oceanside City Council meeting. Everyone felt the 3-2 vote to approve the appeal was a win for the CITIZENS of Oceanside. Or though we thought! Unbeknown was the City Council had to again vote on August 6, 2025, to uphold the vote from May 21, 2025. (The councilmembers who voted to side with the appellant, and not with the developer were City Mayor E. Sanchez Councilman E. Joyce and Councilman J. Figueroa.
At the August 6, 2025, meeting Councilman Figueroa changed his vote and now voted to deny the appeal and approve the Eddie Jones Project, which provided RPG (the developer) the green light, and thus negated everything OceansideSpeaksOut worked so hard for over the past 3 years.
Councilman Figueroa changed his vote at the August 6, 2025 meeting in light of a promise from the developer of $2.5 million dollars, thus as it appeared to all of our OSO members, RPG bought the change of vote! There were many small things during the August 6, 2025, meeting that seemed to dovetail with the "possiblity" of back-room agreements between the developer and Councilman Figueroa for him to change his vote and now support the developer.
This change sends the message the Oceanside City Council, who are elected to represent the citizens, can be bought, and whoever dangles the most $$ wins without regard for the CITIZENS of Oceanside.
To be fair, Mayor Esther Sanchez and Councilman Eric Joyce stood firmly with the citizens and their actions are to be applauded. But Councilmen Peter Weiss and Rick Robinson voted to deny the appeal (thus giving the go-ahead to the developer) which seemed to, in our opinion, align them with "as long as it isn't in my back yard, we don't care if you destroy someone else's backyard" beliefs.
The path forward is not an easy one, but OSO will not give up this fight. OSO is still fighting and will continue to fight for the PEOPLE.”
