It is wonderful to be able to give Great News! The community bid has been accepted by the County Council, enabling a six-month option to finalise plans and complete the purchase of the Mill Road Library. The next step is to raise funds for the renovation and refurbishment of the building so that the the purchase can go ahead.
The community bid is led by the Mill Road Library CIC, which is holding a public opening at Mill Rd Library this Sunday, 12 July, from 10am-12noon. Everyone is welcome to visit this beautiful building and meet other supporters.
We are in the foothills of the long process to re-open this much loved building, for the community.

MILL ROAD LIBRARY OPEN MORNING SUNDAY 12 JULY 2026
Mill Road Library CIC invite all to an open morning at the Mill Road Library this Sunday, 12th July, from 10am to 12pm. This will be an informal opportunity to see the space and meet people involved in the project, learn more about the plans and efforts still required to turn the Mill Road Library into an arts centre.
Matthew Webb, Chair, Mill Road Library CIC, said: “We've been blown away by the positivity, optimism, and practical support for the Mill Road Library project. In the last week alone, we’ve had more than 100 people join the mailing list. More than 50 people have volunteered with skills ranging from front of house to bid writing to community outreach and engagement to programming and curatorial to finance to marketing and comms to heritage. This is going to be your arts centre. We hope you will join us to find out more about the most exciting creative project to happen for our local community in years. We can't wait to share our plans and for you to see what we hope to achieve. Let's hope this inspires many more people to get involved."
