The sale of our Old Library is hopefully not yet a done deal. Community efforts continue….
The County Council have taken the decision to sell our Old Library to someone they are calling Bidder 1. We do not know who this person is. What we do know is that he is a commercial bidder.
If this sale goes through it will take our Old Library out of community hands forever.
The County have taken this decision, but our fight to save our Old Library for the community continues. In the immediate, we are trying to find out who Bidder 1 is.
It is extremely frustrating that the County Council’s secretive approach is once again hindering potential for progress.
In parallel, we are doing our utmost to influence the draft ‘Heads of Terms’ for the proposed sale, to protect the community interest. Essentially to ensure that if for some reason Bidder 1 decides not to keep our Old Library, he would not be able to sell it on the open market, and instead would have to give the community first refusal on the sale.
