Thank you to all who supported the #SaveShanganaghPark campaign in whatever way since its inception.
While still not ideal, the latest proposals from the Council are an improvement on those originally put forward and better balance the competing needs of nature, the community, and sport/non-sport park users alike.
Given the shortfall in raising funds to support the legal challenge, a compromise agreement has been reached which brings the campaign to a close.
Unused funds will as promised be redistributed to local community initiatives.
With ever-greater demands on natural resources, habitats and public amenities, the future of the Park remains at risk. However, this campaign showed what can be achieved when communities come together for a common purpose and propose more sustainable solutions.
Never feel you can’t change things in the face of official pressure - you can and we did - and for that we greatly appreciate your support to #SaveShanganaghPark.
