Hi all,

We need your help to submit hundreds of letters to Bayside Council this weekend in relation to Item 10.1 Heritage Action Plan Review 2024 on next Tuesday’s Bayside Council’s Meeting Agenda.

Background:

Our petition led to a review of the Bayside Heritage Action Plan where future heritage studies and protection are planned out for the municipality.

We were most concerned with the loss of our homes of the Edwardian/Federation era of 1901 to 1920 in Hampton and Sandringham.

The report recommends doing a municipality wide Bayside Thematic Environmental History Revision and to look at what buildings should be studied for heritage protection from there.

Our request to study Hampton and Sandringham in Boyd Ward as a priority has not been accepted and the Officers detail their reasons in their report.

View the details on page 19 on the agenda link here.

In your letter:

  • Tell the Councillors what you value in your suburb and the character and liveability our streets and period homes and gardens contribute.
  • Ask them not to leave the Gap Study that would cover our Edwardian/Federation homes until 2036 – 2028 as low priority. We need this study done as soon as is possible.
  • We understand there will be some apartment blocks in our residential streets and that heritage protection does not preclude development.
  • Submit your letter /written submission via the council portal link here
