Rehabilitating wild skunks in California's #1 goal is to preserve natural wildlife (not interfere with it), especially non-predatory animals who are too often mistook for pests and nuisances, like skunks. Thank you to everyone so far who has signed this petition. I am so humbled and amazed that we have already reached 400 petitioners! Your heart is bigger than you know.
Passing a law which would allow for more individuals to obtain licenses could create more opportunities for independent wildlife centers dedicated to wounded, sick, and orphaned skunks in and around Southern California. There would be a humane option for reintroducing them to the wild rather than being put down (or neglected) in busy, overfilled shelters. Animals would receive the care they require without being needlessly put down, left to starve, or be killed. I cannot thank you enough for all of your support.
Having this experience connected me to the habitat, behaviors, and daily lives of wild skunks which I have been beyond thankful to have experienced now going forth. Their family dynamics and communication in the unit are something that we as humans should aspire for. More importantly, I stand firmly in my position to defend wild skunks, never leaving any wounded, sick, or abandoned animal behind. My heart goes out to the individuals who've defended that we "should just allow nature to run its course", I hope those individuals get the help that they deserve in their times of need.
Thank you all a million times, from the bottom of my heart,
Bebe
