Shire Horse Sponsorship Deceit

Before evicting their Shire Horses from their Estate Chawton House's Trustees raised money through a fundraising campaign called 'Sponsor a Shire'. Horse lovers were invited the nominate the horse of their choice to be the beneficiary of their generous donation. One sponsor donated £1,000 to Speedy. The problem was that despite the claim in their marketing material that donations would be committed to the upkeep of the chosen horse, CHL didn't ring-fence the cash generated from these donations. It simply went into CH's general operational account and was used for other purposes. The fake 'Sponsorship' money never reached the Shires but instead, was allocated to general expenditures on the Library, maintenance and so forth. Despite being a clear breach of UK Advertising standards, CH maintained this falsehood for years.
