CHL Trustees

On Wednesday 6th December two SOS representatives presented our petition containing 1,390 signatures to two Chawton House Library (CHL) trustees. The petition called on the charity to reinstate Shire Horses to their estate following their decision earlier this year to close their stables and give away their 4 iconic Shires. CHL stated that they have other priorities in delivering their plan to ‘Reimagine Jane’s Great House’ and that restoring horses to the estate was a low priority. We inquired if CHL would be amenable to a commercial proposition? We requested a quotation for the lease of their abandoned stables and grazing rights on two fields so that we could reintroduce Shires at our own expense and provide CHL with a much-needed revenue stream. CHL responded that our proposal would be considered if it didn’t conflict with their development priorities. SOS will present our proposed deal points in the hope that CHL’s trustees grant it due consideration. We will, of course, keep you appraised of developments. Thank you for your continued support.
