The Issue
Ride.
The beauty of the original @Horse_ebooks is its surrendipituous and unexpected ability to communicate humor and truths through algorithms to human beings. Not only were it one of the most fascinating subjects of Human-Computer Interactions, but it was also an Internet sensation that was started by a robot.
However, it had been revealed recently that @Horse_ebooks had been taken over by humans since 2011, and the tweets were not genuinely created by algorithm anymore, but manually by the new owners, Jacob Bakkila. As the new owners declared the end of their 'project' on impersonating @Horse_ebooks as performance art piece, they also decided to stop running @Horse_ebooks with their tweets, comparing their art to a finished painting.
This petition is to urge the new owners to return @Horse_ebooks back to the hands of the original creator, Alexei Kouznetsov, and keep it running with the original code. The beauty of the new generation of algorithm-based art is its possibility to create infinite amount of permutations of the same work. By returning the account back into the hands of the spambot, the performance art of Bakkila will be more complete, as his tweets will blend back thoroughly with the algorithm, signifying art as a never-finished process instead of a finished product.
And for us and humanity as a whole, we will be able to preserve both art pieces of by Bakkila and Kouznetsov, one being a period in time, and one being forever running as a clockwork machine.
