UPDATE AUGUST 22, 2023

My husband and I are still in shock from Andrew's hospital discharge yesterday. 

The sightings today included:  

5:30 a.m. Andrew was seen at Winona Road.

8:10 a.m. Andrew was walking west on St. Clair and Oakwood.

8:43 a.m. A lady sent a photo of Andrew sleeping in the TD bank corridor at St. Clair and Winona Road.  Andrew could be seen from the front window sitting  asleep in the corner.  It broke our hearts!

9:00 a.m. Andrew was seen walking at Dufferin and St. Clair.

2:45 p.m.  Andrew was seen sleeping on the grass outside Home Depot at St. Clair and Keele.  This location is next to the McDonald's where Andrew was apprehended and taken to hospital last Friday.

Andrew's discharge from St. Joseph's Hospital yesterday was devastating! We do not understand why Dr. Matthew Haaland, psychiatrist released Andrew to the streets of Toronto, verses supporting a medical transfer to P.E.I., where his psychiatrist will provide medical treatment. This makes no common sense to us and most people following Andrew's mental health journey.

Instead of Andrew sleeping in a hospital bed at St. Joseph's Hospital or the Hillsborough Hospital in Charlottetown, Dr. Matthew Haaland has subjected our son to sleep at the TD Bank for the night.  Andrew was an Assistant Bank Manager, so assuming he finds solace in this familiar environment.

Andrew wore a suit when he worked at the bank. We received a photo today showing Andrew wearing a pair of pants with a large hole in the seat.

Do the psychiatrists really think that human rights are more important than giving Andrew his life back? Furthermore, if Andrew had clarity of thought, do you think living homeless on the streets of Toronto would be what Andrew would choose?

I am a MAMA BEAR and I will protect our son! Furthermore, I WILL NEVER GIVE UP TRYING TO SAVE OUR SON'S LIFE!

It appears that the medical community including Humber and St. Joseph's Hospitals are holding our son captive in Ontario. The expression DOG IN THE MANAGER comes to mind. These hospitals are choosing to keep Andrew homeless on the streets of Toronto without medical assistance, and are preventing Andrew from the care that his psychiatrist on P.E.I. is willing to give! I wish someone would explain this rationale to me because we clearly do not understand.

We are hoping that Hon. Sylvia Jones, Ontario Minister of Health will exercise her right to grant a medical transfer under the provincial Mental Health Act. It is our understanding that Hon. Michael Tibollo, Associate Minister of Mental Health and Addictions is also aware of Andrew's situation as well as MMP Michael Ford.

Should Hon. Sylvia Jones grant our request, we would then be required to file our fifth Form 2 to have Andrew apprehended by the police and taken to hospital for an assessment.  We are hoping this Form 2 filing will be less difficult and that the JP will grant a remote interview.

Andrew's medical transfer will be funded by the P.E.I. Government.  The Repatriate personnel will make all the arrangements including an escort.

We are most thankful to the people of Ontario who are caring for our son, Andrew, by providing him with food, water, money and clothing, as well as providing me with daily sightings.

The Globe and Mail will be publishing a story written by Marcus Gee this week. It will detail Andrew's painful mental health story and my advocacy for mental health reform.

Kim Zavzour, Tor Star will be publishing a comprehensive two-part story regarding Andrew, and various advocacy efforts. It will be released Saturday or perhaps Monday, August 28, 2023.

I received a call from CBC TV Compass Charlottetown reporter, Jessica Doria-Brown.  She has offered to interview me tomorrow.

My husband and I met with MP Sean Casey, former Senator Diane Griffin, as well as two senators to discuss the ADVANCED MEDICAL DIRECTIVE proposal.  MP Sean Casey is hoping to draft a Private Member's Bill.  If this Bill is passed by the Senate it would be known as ANDREW'S BILL.

I have a team of very gifted individuals who are guiding, encouraging and supporting me daily. The list is extensive including a group known as TEAM who has a mandate for MENTAL HEALTH REFORM. This group consists of lawyers, psychiatrists and people with a vested interest in mental health. These individuals will be meeting with Hon. Michael Tibollo in the near future.

Special thanks to Maureen Trask, Advocate for Missing Persons.  She continues to guide and provide advice.  Maureen's son, Daniel, went missing and unfortunately, was discovered deceased.   Maureen now facilitates a bi-weekly Peer Support Group.  I am a member of that group.

Also many thanks to Kerry McLean, volunteer investigator with the PLEASE BRING ME HOME ORGANIZATION.  Kerry suggested that I begin a petition for Andrew to help raise mental health awareness.
