One thing to remember about the Lightyear film is there there's also the TV series from 2000, which has lead to some debate on which in universe origins for the toy are more accurate, and it's a film that was seemingly waiting for the day John Lasseter left Pixar to be done based on what Lasseter himself whilst no longer associated with Disney had to say about it.
