The first (of what I am sure will be many) Australian production of Hadestown is wrapping up in Melbourne next week.
Our petition advocating for a cast recording of the Australian production of Hadestown has garnered significant support, with over 2,1000 signatures already despite only starting shortly before the Sydney run finished.
Supporters emphasise the exceptional talent of the Australian cast and the desire to preserve their performances for future audiences.
Fans express a deep connection to the Australian rendition, noting its unique energy and emotional impact. Many have shared personal stories of being profoundly moved by the performances, highlighting the cast’s ability to bring fresh perspectives to the beloved musical.
There is a strong sentiment that, like the Broadway and West End productions, the Australian cast deserves an official recording to celebrate and immortalise their contribution to the arts.
Supporters believe that such a recording would not only honour the performers but also allow a wider audience to experience this distinctive interpretation of Hadestown.
The collective voice of the petitioners underscores the importance of recognising and preserving the unique artistry of the Australian production, advocating for its rightful place alongside other celebrated versions of the musical.
Opera Australia advised that they are aware of the petition, but while they have the right to stage the production here, the rights for a cast recording aren’t automatically granted.
Surely this is an obstacle that can be overcome.
Wouldn’t it be magnificent to be able to re-live this show again and again until the next Australian production takes place, and once it does, be able to pick up a genuine Australian cast recording from the merchandise table.
Let’s keep this petition going. Who knows what it will lead to!
Thank YOU for YOUR support so far, and please keep sharing this petition!
