Hello Petition Supporters,

My name is Grace with the Change.org Civic Engagement Team. Congratulations on the momentum you are building on the topic of planting more trees to combat San Diego's heat. Having 212 people come together to advocate is a big milestone.

When momentum builds on a petition, our team reaches out to the local leaders who have the power to act on the issue. We help make sure they are aware of the growing support and encourage them to share a response directly to you about where things stand, actions they have or will take, and how the community can get involved in the decision making process.

Through outreach we learned key information that will inform the decision making process and supporter mobilization.

We spoke with the office of Council President Joe LaCava, who we learned is generally supportive of environmental issues. His office shared that tree planting in the city is usually grant funded and resources based. Supporters can get involved at an upcoming Kate Sessions Day event on November 6 from 7:30 to 9:30 at the Pacific Beach Library. Kate Sessions Day honors the horticulturist known as the "Mother of Balboa Park," and the City typically marks it with volunteer tree planting. For questions about City tree planting, supporters can email trees@sandiego.gov.

Another way to have a voice in this decision making process is through the City's Community Forest Advisory Board which helps influence the City's Urban Forestry program. Interested residents can apply to the board through the City's Boards & Commissions page, https://www.sandiego.gov/trees/cfab

We hope you find the information helpful. - Grace and the Civic Engagement Team
