UPDATE ON SANDLEFORD - 11 MAR AND UP-COMING ELECTIONS

Please find below an update on the situation with the Sandleford Planning Applications.  As you know, I do not get involved in Sandleford generally, my concern is road safety and it is for this reason that I am campaigning against the Warren Road Access.  Several weeks ago there was an accident at the pedestrian crossing in front of Park House School, where a car collided with another, pushing one van into the pedestrian crossing.  Had this been one hour later there would have been multiple casualties, most, if not all, of them children.  With the traffic forecast within the Donnington New Homes planning application (not taking into account Bloor Homes) predicting that the Andover Road will have one third more daily traffic than the A339 dual carriageway in 2031, I feel that it is even more important to highlight our concerns with the proposed Warren Road Access. 

The local Elections are coming up and although I am not part of a political party and try to avoid political parties as much as I can, there have been several people who have supported and assisted the Warren Road Access Campaign and the Road Safety Campaign for the Andover Road who will be standing for Wash Common Ward.  For your information, local residents will have to select 3 Councillors for West Berkshire Council.  These Councillors will be able to help us to achieve our goal of preventing the Warren Road Access if they choose too.  For Newbury Town Council the voter has to select 6 Councillors.  Several individuals are running for both West Berkshire Council and Newbury Town Council.  Please read the election newsletters coming through your door and take into account your concerns regarding Sandleford and the other local things that matter to you.  There are local people living in our ward running for election who have a more local knowledge and who are willing to fight on our behalf for what matters to us.  It is my view that these elections will be extremely important for the local area as it is our chance to vote in the Councillors that will listen and act on our concerns.

Update on Sandleford from Say No To Sandleford:
 
Despite a flurry of activity over the new year, there was no determination of the Bloor Homes application at the end of January.

The Planning Officer for the applications told us last week:
Discussions with the applicants for both applications are still ongoing and there are still several key issues that need to be much further progressed before we can get to a stage where we can open up a reconsultation period with local people. We don't yet know when those issues will get to that stage, or what reconsultation might raise, so at this point in time we do not have an anticipated date for determination.

This would seem to be good news in that they are still miles apart from where they need to be before any recommendation for determination.

I have asked whether this means the developers are going to have to put in fresh applications if there is to be a further round of consultations. I have also asked about the current activity taking place on Sandleford and we will keep you updated.
