There was a good attendance at the Town Council Meeting. Some challenging questions were put to the Developer's Representative and his team, some answered, some with question marks over them. It is a shame that there was not a representative from Donnington Homes who own the land leading to the potential access road with Warren Road as there were question marks over some information required. We received a sympathetic response to our campaign, although it is essential that all Supporters send a letter to the Planning Department to state their objections in full, copy to towncouncil@newbury.gov.uk with the subject SANDLEFORD PARK DEVELOPMENT. It is predicted by the developers that there will be a 20-30% increase in traffic as a result of the development but the big question is in which direction will the traffic go to reach the A34? Warren Road access will be accessible to vehicles from the entire development as far as the A339! One interesting point that someone brought up was the speed cameras located in front of the 2 schools represented 2 fatal or serious injury collisions in the previous 3 years prior to installation. I googled this and found information on the www.roadpeace.org website which stated that camera core sites could not qualify until they met the following requirements: 4 or more fatal or serious injury collisions in the previous 3 years prior to installation. 20% of drivers exceeding the speed limit. There is no other practical engineering solutions possible - confirmed by site survey by a road safety engineer. Less than 1% of the road network has its speed limit enforced by camera. If the above is true then it reflects the views of the Petition's Supporters in that the Andover Road is already a dangerous road and to increase traffic in that area would be a danger to our children. Please help to spread the word regarding our petition. There have been several people who have expressed an interest in helping collect written signatures etc. I will be setting up a Facebook group later so that we can keep in touch and will put the information on this page. Thank you to everyone who has signed so far. Best regards, Julie
