Yesterday some of the Friends Of The DuPage River: and Backcountry Hunters & Anglers set out to pick up trash along the DuPage River in Shorewood and Channahon. I know that River and Canal St is a popular place for people to hang out and party along the river. With that comes a lot of trash, especially because there’s no garbage cans in that area for people to dump their trash. As disappointing and sad as it was to see all of that trash it was truly amazing how much trash 7 or 8 people can collect in such a short amount of time. Tom Merrion brought his big magnets out to collect some metal at the bottom of the river, Brian Grandchamp, Oz and I collected bags and bags of trash along the banks along Canal St. where the people like to park, and John and Alex paddled from Hammel Woods to us down near River Rd and brought back several bags of trash, 2 tires and a blue barrel.
As I always remind everyone: respect the river, the land around the river and the landowners along the river. Bring out more than you came with.
