I would like to thank the 50 brave people who have joined me thus far in doing something remarkable -- caring about what happens to someone you have never met.

50 may seem unremarkable to most but to me it means so much right now. Two days ago I started this petition with zero others joining in. That number stayed at zero for quite a while. I was wondering what the hell I was thinking. So you can imagine how good it feels to have 50 other humans who care about this.

I would like to use this update to challenge myself with two goals:

1. Ask every US presidential candidate what they would do to assist in Qiu Zhanxuan's situation.

2. Ask Xi Mingze what her stance is on the detention of Qiu Zhanxuan is, and if she would use her influence to help to release him. Xi Mingze is the daughter of China's president, Xi Jinping. She studied in the US at Harvard University. Her father is ultimately responsible for the cracking down of Chinese students like Qiu Zhanxuan. Her father has the authority to release Qiu immediately (if he is still alive). If you ever needed an example of why I think our strategy of halting US University applicants could work, she is it. Have no doubt that other powerful officials of China wish to send their sons and daughters to US universities every fall, and if their places in university were jeopardized, they would seriously consider freeing student protesters like Qui Zhanxuan. As an alumni of Harvard, Xi Mingze owes her Alma Mater an explanation of how China is treating their own students, and I hope she has the concious and independence to speak up for this issue. Harvard University and Alumnus must do their part to speak up against the abuse of Qui Zhanxuan.
