My name is Thomas C. Cobb, I’m a sophomore at Pierce County High and I believe that the school dress code is geared to restrict children's ability to express themselves through their clothing, hair, and piercings. Specifically, I believe that the dress code affects Females and POC (people of color).
I’m writing this letter because quite frankly It’s time the sexism and discrimination highlighted and/or outlined in the school’s dress code be changed. To begin the list of things that I, and those who have signed this document, think should be should. The schools limitation that Shorts, or skirts, should be 2 inches above the knee should be changed to 4 inches above the knee. Finding shorts and skirts that are within the 2 inch limitation can be extremely hard for those who are in poverty or who are going through a financial deficit due to the Covid-19 pandemic. Not to mention that a 4 inch limitation should not show any undegarments on Male, Female, or Nonbinary students, however I do believe that there should be a rule against undergarments showing.
Secondly, I, and those whom have signed, think that Jeans or any other form of pants should be able to have holes above the knees unless they show the students undergarments. Similarly to the request before this, it can be hard for those in poverty or with tight finances to find pants that are in good quality or without
