Dear friends, Earlier this year you signed a petition in support of my continued employment at the University of Illinois. Once again, let me say how grateful I am for that support. I have remained unemployed since May 15 while my status has remained in limbo. Over the summer the Provost appointed a committee to investigate and report on the process through which I was hired. Professor Matthew Wheeler of the U of I's Department of Animal Sciences chaired that committee. I am told that the Board of Trustees meeting of November 13th in Chicago will consider the recommendations of this report and a resolution pertaining to my employment at the U of I. At 9:30 a.m. on Monday, November 10th, The Friends of James Kilgore will hold a media conference in the run up to the Board meeting. It will take place on the Wright Street side of the Henry Administration Building (506 S. Wright St), which houses the offices of the Board. The Friends will be asking the Trustees to follow the recommendations of Professor Wheeler’s committee. Furthermore, they will maintain that the Board of Trustees has no authority to breach the autonomy of campus governance and violate the procedures for hiring faculty and staff already in place and recognized by the university Administration. For those of you who are in the area, I would be very appreciative if you could attend this event. For the majority of you, who come from campuses and communities across the US, South Africa, the UK, Australia, Mexico, Brazil and beyond, I will send further updates as events proceed between now and the 13th. Thanks once again, James Kilgore
