Robert Warrior responds:

Robert Warrior

Many thanks to all those who have organized and joined this petition in support of the appointment of Professor Steven Salaita. As Director of American Indian Studies at the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign, I remain committed to Steven's appointment and to the principles of academic freedom more and more at stake here at Illinois and in the academic world more broadly.

Thank you Dr. Warrior. The U of I is my alma mater, and you make me proud to be an Illini. Phyllis Wise...not so much.

Silencing would not make a just cause evaporate. Professor Salaita thank you for speaking truth to those try to blur or trivialize it. Regardless of the end result, you can always feel proud that you spoke when many others bent their heads and kept silent or deceived themselves with spurious excuses. This is an honorable legacy that not many can nowadays leave.

We cannot let free speech on Illinois campuses be destroyed by outside, international interests. The law HR 35 in California is an unconstitutional law decreeing all criticism of Israel & Zionism equal to Antisemitism and ILLEGAL on CA campuses! The question remains: Did the B'nai B'rith, ADL, JDL AIPAC or other Jewish, Israeli, or Zionist interest groups pressure the administration to fire this man? Stand up for free speech.

Dr. Warrior, you are fantastic. You are not alone and your courage is tremendous at this juncture. I am not sure if Dr Wise's middle name is "NOT", but her sycophancy in this matter is troubling. Her decision is in violation of the basic charter upon which UIUC is founded. I hope she quickly realizes the egregiousness of her actions and correct them immediately.

Dr. Warrior, we greatly appreciate your courageous stand. We are certain it's going to be a bumpy ride, but we support you and professor salaita and academic freedom. Dr. Wise is in the wrong, and we will not rest until he is reinstated. THANK you!!
