As we walked through the streets every day, we come across stray animals like dogs and cats sleeping at the dirty and unsafe ground or finding something to eat in the garbage or wandering around the area. Most of them were abandoned by their owners and some were born in the streets by their homeless mother hence they grew up being homeless too. Many Filipinos tend to buy pure breed or half breed dogs and cats rather than adopting aspins {also known as Askals means “Native dog” or “Filipino dog”} and puspins {means “Filipino cat”}. Buying breed dogs and cats aren’t bad as what it seems, but adopting stray animals are more likely a better thing to do instead of buying at pet shops that costs ₱5,000.00 and above while adoption costs range only from ₱250.00-₱1,500.00, so it is truly affordable and cheaper than buying. We can adopt dogs and cats from organizations like Philippine Animal Welfare Society and Philippine Animal Rescue Team but we can also adopt homeless dogs and cats in the streets or where ever we see some. Animals are gifts to us, we must take care of them as they are living in the same world as we do. Adopting isn’t far from saving a life because you really are saving one, just like us humans, animals also need the basic need of life such as food (including water), shelter and clothing. And also sanitation and healthcare. Aside from that they too are in need of love, care, affection, and attention. If we would just look deeply in the eyes of the homeless animals, we would discover what they have been through and what those they need are. Dogs and cats from streets are similar from dogs and cats with breeds, not with visuals like having thick fur, size, and etcetera but in their character. Aspins and Puspins are loving, generous, smart, obedient, reliable and more. They are more than what we perceive. In addition, there are researches that proves petting dogs is good for our mental health and contributes a great impact in our lives so they aren't just a burden. Most of the aspins and puspins were abused by humans therefore we really need to take an action and make awareness regarding this matter. Please let us help those loveable aspins and puspins and have unity in adopting homeless animals rather than buying. You can be your own hero by doing small things. Save a life and save more lives.
