Dear Supporter, Thank you for signing our petition to save 44 Star Island. Great news! We've reached 416 signatures in just a few days. The plans to demolish 44 Star Island have just been filed with the City. There is still time to work with the owner and the City to find a way to save this home before it gets sent to the landfill. We are asking for your help to make this a reality. We need to make sure our Mayor knows that we care about preservation. He needs to hear, right now, that he can't ignore you. Will you take just a few minutes to call and leave a message for Mayor Philip Levine? Call: 305-673-7035 and ask for Mayor Levine or his aide Alex Miranda. If you go into voicemail or are only able to speak with the receptionist, please be sure to leave a message. Here's what you can say: "Hi, My name is _____, and I'm calling to leave a message for Mayor Phil Levine about the potential demolition of the home at 44 Star Island. I'm distressed that this landmark may be erased forever from our history. It was built by John H Levi, founding father of Miami Beach, and it sits at the entrance to Star Island, visible to all who enter and exit our City. To allow one of the City founder's homes to be demolished during our Centennial year would be an awful way to honor our City's history. I hope the Mayor can work with the owner to figure out a solution to save this important structure before it's too late. Replacing it with a 24,000 square foot home - approximately the equivalent of a 40-room hotel - would be an embarrassment for this City which prides itself on historic preservation." Thank you for taking action, - Save Miami Beach P.S. We'd love to hear back if you made a phone call. Let us know how it went! Email info@savemiamibeach.org
