Allowing Clinical Practicing Rights to Pharmacist
Allowing Clinical Practicing Rights to Pharmacist
The Issue
It has been observed that Pharmacist is mere considered as compounder and dispenser in India. The Practice of Pharmacy is followed worldwide including decision making in prescriptions, drug Interactions, observing adverse drug effects and clinical outcomes of the treatment advised. In India Pharmacy Graduates are not considered eligible for the practice of Clinical Pharmacy. Although the Pharm D(Doctor of Pharmacy) Course has started by Pharmacy Council of India and is a 6 Year course including 1 year of Hospital Internship , still Pharm. D degree holders are not allowed for an independent practice. Although they have better knowledge regarding Medicines and related outcomes the only option they have to choose is a Pharmacy "SHOP". When other professionals can take up 6 months Pharmacology course and start practicing Allopathic medicine? Why can’t Pharm D and B.Pharmacy degree holders (Pharmacy Graduates) who study Pharmacology and Allopathic system for 4 Years as well as pathology. Also Pharmacist should be allowed for Pathology Laboratory Practice. These will really help and benefit medication scenario in India.
