In yesterday's ground breaking meeting of Herefordshire Council, councillor Philip Price for infrastructure said there was no way the local authority would move away from its plans for a new road around the west of Hereford.
"I have worked for 10 years on the bypass and I am not going to give up on that," he told the meeting. "We need to grow the economy for the young people in this county and we need to have the infrastructure in place."
These ideas are so outdated they are as dead as the dinosaurs. Its up to you to tell them. Enough is enough.
Nobody expects young people to stay in a City dominated by a Conservative Council that advocates more road building, in a City that needs modern clean technology public transport solutions to reduce its local traffic congestion, in a city that is crying out for safe cycle networks and free electric buses.
Nobody expects their kids to stay in a place designed around the car, where pollution will continue to grow while a few landowners and housebuilders get richer. Nobody expects their students to choose accommodation located between a transport hub, railway station and the busiest City road.
No one trusts this Local Government to plan, design, manage or even maintain a modern attractive City anymore. Overspending, lack of scrutiny, cover ups, lies, broken promises, bias consultations, conflict of interests.
The only consistency in this administration's track record is it's ignorance. Ignorance of the science of transport research, ignorance of the public health issues. Ignorance of Climate Change. Ignorance of loss of biodiversity.
Time for change. Time for a revitalised Core Strategy. Time for a new local government.
