Ban Monsanto's Glyphosate and Neonicotinoid Chemicals

Ban Monsanto's Glyphosate and Neonicotinoid Chemicals
The Issue
Monsanto’s glyphosate is the most widely used agricultural chemical in the world, and is the most heavily used weed killer in history. It is an active ingredient in Monsanto's broad-spectrum herbicide Roundup. Glyphosate is sprayed on virtually all food crops around the world. Roundup is the most commonly used formulation but glyphosate can also be found in other pesticide formulas.
In 2015 glyphosate was labeled a “probable carcinogin” by The World Health Organization’s cancer agency IARC. Glyphosate has been found in a wide array of samples, including blood, urine, breast milk, drinking water and more. Why do people have traces of this probable carcinogen in their bodies regardless of where they live? The answer is because glyphosate is sprayed on virtually all food crops around the world.
The heavy use of glyphosate – particularly on genetically engineered (GE) Roundup Ready crops, which are also developed by Monsanto – has been linked to bee mortality, and decline in Monarch butterflies along with toxicity to soil, woodland plants, amphibians, fish, aquatic environments and mammals.
Neonicotinoids are a relatively new class of insecticides that share a common mode of action that affect the central nervous system of insects, resulting in paralysis and death. Neonicotinods can also be persistent in the environment, and when used as seed treatments, translocate to residues in pollen and nectar of treated plants putting pollinators at risk.
Simply put: no bees – no food – no people!
There should be no ‘allowed’ levels of toxic chemicals such as glyphosate or other toxic chemicals in our bodies, in our food and in the environment! It is a fact that the scientific and regulatory process cannot evidence ‘safe’ levels for these chemicals.”
Germany, France, Switzerland, Sri Lanka, Brazil, Chile are among many countries that have either banned the use of glyphosate and/or banned the use of GE seeds and crops.
Where ever you live contact your government health and environment officials and elected representatives. It is time for our voices to be heard and to reclaim our health and the health of our planet. If you agree please sign this petition .... our voices need to be heard NOW.
