Thank you for your support and keep signing this petition as our voice is strong! In a national address on the 20th of July 2022, President Uhuru Kenyatta unveiled the 5th stimulus package on food subsidies meant to help cushion Kenyans against the cost of living. Among them was an order for a 2KG maize flour packet to retail at Sh100 effective immediately, until further notice.

However, the stimulus package offered differed from the demands in the Mwananchi's Budget, which was the demand when this petition was delivered in protests this month and last week:

Mwananchi's Budget:

  • Ugali 2 KG - KES 60
  • Cooking oil 1 LTR - KES 150
  • Maziwa 0.5 LTR - KES 40
  • Sukari 1KG - KES 70
  • Mkate 400 GMS - KES 40
  • Gas 6KG - KES 800

Kenyans have marched and protested against the high cost of living several times this year. This work has achieved a lot, but a lot more can be done by the government!

We still push that legislation is initiated that standardises the prices of basic commodities as proposed in the Mwananchi's Budget. That there be process initiated to ensure the provision of food for all those facing hunger & starvation in Kenya. We continue to ask that parliament initiate legislation that will provide a timeline and guideline for the implementation of Article 43 of the Kenyan Constitution 2010. We want the full Mwananchi budget to be implemented and for all Kenyans to be protected against hunger and lack.
