We’re taking things a step further since it seems that the authorities are not responding. Time is of the essence.
We’re asking for your help to flood the inboxes of the key decision-makers—there’s nothing quite like the power of numbers! The petition alone isn’t conveying just how much we care…
! THIS TUESDAY ! marks the start of a scheduled rat control operation, and we fear that unsecured toxic substances, or poisoned rats left out, could end up being consumed by cats. So we’re calling for a massive response: please email both Mayor of Rogoźnica - Anita Živković and AS-EKO, the company handling both the deratization and cat sterilization operations, urging them to properly protect the cats. We demand that all poisons be contained in secure boxes that are inaccessible to cats, and that dead rats be promptly removed to prevent any harm to the feline population.
In open spaces, the bait won’t be safeguarded, and we can only hope that cats won’t come into contact with it. We also ask the authorities to provide safe food for the cats during these days, and for a few days after, so that they won’t have to seek other, potentially dangerous, food sources. This level of care should be a standard practice! But it seems the authorities may be counting on this operation to reduce the cat population “incidentally.” We must remember that an animal’s death is not painless. A quick death might happen only if the poison is consumed in large amounts, but smaller doses result in a slow, painful process as the animal’s body essentially dehydrates internally—a horrible experience.
P.S. If you are currently in Rogoźnica or will be there between November 4th and 15th, please consider leaving food out for the cats. If the cats are well-fed, they are less likely to go near the poison.
