Next Steps
I have reached out to media outlets to increase visibility and gain deeper insight into how this crisis is impacting Canadians. I will continue to share relevant information with them in the hope of making this a national conversation. I’ll provide updates as I receive responses and make significant progress.

Growing support for the petition would also strengthen our case by demonstrating public concern, making it easier to capture media attention and gain their trust in prioritizing this issue.

The Vicious Cycle in Healthcare
The ongoing healthcare workforce crisis is a self-perpetuating issue:

Overstretched workforce → Increased workload → Burnout → More staff quitting → Even greater shortages → Longer wait times & declining quality of care

Without addressing the root cause—the shortage of healthcare professionals—this cycle will continue to spiral downward, leaving Canadians with limited access to timely care.

Let's make this issue more accessible to our friends, family, and community to build stronger support. If the general public doesn't fully understand the problem, it will be harder to gain their backing.

To help with this, I have added an FAQ section based on common questions I received when sharing this petition. This section may also assist you in addressing any inquiries you encounter.

If you come across any other questions or concerns from the public, please share them with me. Your input will help refine this document and strengthen our petition.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
Q: Won’t building new hospitals improve wait times?
A: A building alone does not provide healthcare—staff do. Without addressing the workforce shortage, new hospitals won’t solve the problem. There simply aren’t enough healthcare workers to run additional facilities efficiently.

Q: Would increasing the intake of students in Canadian medical schools solve this crisis?
A: While it is important to train more Canadian healthcare professionals, this is a long-term solution. Increasing medical school capacity requires infrastructure development, funding, and faculty resources, which take years to implement. Even after expansion, it would take an additional decade before newly trained doctors and nurses can fully enter the workforce.

Q: Will integrating Internationally Educated Healthcare Professionals (IEHPs) take away jobs from Canadian graduates?
A: No. Integrating experienced IEHPs into a separate, streamlined pathway will provide immediate relief to the system without affecting new Canadian graduates. As the population continues to grow, the demand for healthcare professionals will only increase, requiring both IEHPs and Canadian-trained graduates.

Q: Would reinstating healthcare workers who left due to vaccine mandates fix the shortage?
A: This is a common misconception. The number of healthcare workers who left due to vaccine mandates was a small fraction of the total workforce. Many have already been allowed to return, yet the shortage persists. The issue is much larger than this single factor.
