TONIGHT - 5pm Town Hall 15600 Addison Road Airport Master Plan Presentation/ Info from Last Night

Hello - Below is a summary from last night's meeting and tonight is the Airport Master Plan presentation at 5pm to Council at Town Hall. If you cannot come - you may use this link to send a comment: https://www.addisontx.gov/Government/City-Secretary/City-Council-Public-Comment-Form If you are unsure of what to say - copy and paste this:
"Before the Town approves or implements any Master Plan project that would increase aircraft operations, larger aircraft activity, or neighborhood impacts, we ask the Town complete an independent Community Impact Study consisting of a Health Impact Assessment, an independent noise study, and at least six months of baseline air-quality monitoring in partnership with an independent university."
1) The most important action item from last night is this: Last night Addison Staff said they cannot report our concerns and feedback to the FAA on our behalf. WE THE PEOPLE HAVE TO REPORT TO THE FAA noise, pollution, and safety concerns. Talking to your Council person, the City Management Staff or the anyone other than the FAA is not going to make changes. PLEASE GO TO - https://www.addisonairport.net/Contact-Us/Noise-Concern
AND REPORT TO https://ancir.faa.gov/ancir
2) The most concerning expansion is a runway that will allow for larger planes. They said it is not their intention to allow for larger commercial planes. They said it was for aircraft that want to go on longer, international flights to carry more fuel, and it would help with the "noise sensitive area". They are ONLY noting ONE area of Addison as noise sensitive - Addison East. They are not considering other areas including ADDISON NORTH who will have the runway extended to their side of town. An attendee also noted that an aircraft carrying more fuel is going to be heavier and will not mitigate the noise. (I personally am concerned about aircraft with MORE fuel overhead - we have aviation schools and more Southwest flights - will that be safe?)
Regarding our future with a larger and longer runway - let me give some food for thought. If I babysat kids and put a playground in my backyard - would you be surprised if I had more activity with kids and more noise using it? They said last night they CANNOT STOP or permit what type of aircraft use the airport - military, etc. So what is to stop larger planes from using that runway - especially when the FAA controls us? We cannot stop the F5 that flies over our heads now!
3) The other expansion is the expansion of flights. They said last night we have fewer flight operations now than we did in the past. But what kind of operations did we have in the past? In the past 20 years I have lived here I have seen small aircraft being pushed out of the airport for larger operations. Living next to the airport - the noise and fuel smell have increased. There are times in Addison Circle Park you cannot even hear the person next to you. The more operations in the past were with smaller planes - not the jets we have now. They have made the airport unfriendly to the local aviation community that this airport was created to serve.
4) Last night they said the last noise study was completed in 2004!!!! We are basing the future our community on a noise study that is OVER 20 years old when we HAVE MORE large operators based there NOW (Galaxy, etc.). They are using computer models AND NOT REAL WORLD MEASUREMENTS. They said it would be TOO EXPENSIVE to have a study - but WE HAD ENOUGH MONEY FOR A CONSULTANT. We need to make a stand for the HUMANS who live here. There are universities that could help us. We could partner with respected local institutions such as The University of Texas at Dallas and UT Southwestern Medical Center to conduct independent research on aircraft noise, ultrafine particles, and community health. These universities have the expertise to provide objective scientific analysis, and partnering with them would demonstrate that Addison values evidence, transparency, and public trust AND WOULD NOT BE A CONSULTANT COST.
HOW CAN WE MOVE FORWARD WITH THE FUTURE IF WE DON'T KNOW THE CURRENT STATE OF AIRPORT OPERATIONS ON OUR COMMUNITY AND SURROUNDING AREA? THANK YOU FOR CARING AND SHARING YOUR VOICE! PLEASE SHARE THIS WITH OTHERS!
