We thank everyone who attended, supported, shared, invited others, asked questions, and helped make The Black Agenda Online Town Hall #4 a serious and energizing gathering.
The theme was:
Reparative Citizenship, Representation, and the Next Phase of Action
This was a report-back, a community check-in, a strategy session, and a call to keep organizing.
WHAT WE COVERED
During the Town Hall, we discussed the growth of the petition from the Founding 2,200 to the current push beyond 2,300.
We gave updates on the Interim Submission of the Ongoing Petition, including why it was submitted before the final submission and why the petition remains open for continued signatures, comments, organizational support, and public pressure.
We shared what has happened since the petition was presented to relevant offices and individuals, including what has been received, what remains pending, and why continued public pressure is necessary.
We reported on the meeting with the Diaspora Affairs Office of the President, including the process outlined for forwarding the petition and related concerns through the appropriate channels.
We discussed Ɔbenfo Ọbádélé Bakari Kambon’s meeting with the Minister of Foreign Affairs and why the petition connects to Ghana’s wider policy, diplomatic, and reparative justice commitments.
We also debriefed the Next Steps conference, including how the issues raised there connect to the broader struggle for reparative citizenship, representation, transparency, and practical reform.
THE CORE ISSUES REMAIN CLEAR
The petition continues to challenge specific barriers in the current citizenship process, beginning with the central issue:
No real constituency-mandated seats at the decision-making table
Prohibitive fees
Unclear procedures
Limited application windows
Exclusionary barriers
No clear appeals process
These are not abstract concerns.
They directly affect whether reparative citizenship is restored only in words or also in policy, procedure, and lived reality.
Without constituency-mandated seats, fees can be imposed without us, DNA can be introduced or reintroduced without us, procedures can shift without us, application windows can close without us, and appeals processes can remain unclear without us.
That is why representation comes first.
No decisions about us without us.

WHAT WE MEAN BY CONSTITUENCY-MANDATED SEATS
A major focus of the Town Hall was the continuing demand for real constituency-mandated seats at the decision-making table.
By constituency-mandated seats, we mean accountable representation selected through a clear Historic Diaspora constituency process, not symbolic appointments, individual gatekeepers, or state-selected representatives.
Symbolic welcome is not enough.
Public celebration is not enough.
Diaspora-facing events are not enough.
The Historic Diaspora must have meaningful, accountable representation in the policies and processes that affect citizenship, repatriation, public accountability, and Ghana’s relationship with the Historic Diaspora.
The demand remains clear:
Restore reparative citizenship in principle and in practice.
MEDIA, ORGANIZATIONS, AND PUBLIC PRESSURE
We also discussed media momentum, organizational support, public statements, and the need for more groups to stand openly with the petition.
The petition is moving through several lanes at once: public signatures, formal submission, government-facing communication, media discussion, organizational support, and community organizing.
That does not mean the work is done.
It means the work must continue with even more discipline.
Every signature matters.
Every comment matters.
Every share matters.
Every organization that stands publicly with the petition matters.
WHY THIS STILL MATTERS
Reparative citizenship means citizenship is treated as restoration, not charity.
It treats repatriation as repair, not revenue.
The Historic Diaspora must not be invited, celebrated, marketed to, and symbolically welcomed while lacking real constituency-mandated seats at the table.
The Historic Diaspora must not be invited, celebrated, marketed to, and symbolically welcomed while the citizenship process remains marked by prohibitive fees, unclear procedures, limited windows, exclusionary barriers, and no clear appeals process.
