Hi all - I've been meaning to send an update for a bit. There is progress towards 2 more requests in our petition.

LIGHTING:

In the Spring, WW Council approved as part of the 2024 budget additional lighting for Rabbit Hill & Bennington Rd. Per the Mayor's State of Address the Council requested an increase in the budget for lighting throughout West Windsor. Per his remarks he stated the following in regards to increased lighting in our area:

  • Rabbit Hill Road, including intersections with Cranbury Road, Route 571 and all side streets; replace 6 existing light fixtures and install 8 new lights;
  • Bennington Drive; upgrade 4 existing street lights;
  • Cranbury Road in the area of the new sidewalk and crosswalks; 5 new street lights and 1 street light upgrade

The lights should go in sometime this fall. Township engineers have approved the project and are awaiting PSEG to schedule the project.

SIDEWALK EXTENSTION:

The 2024 budget also includes $50k for design of the Cranbury Rd Sidewalk, Phase 3, to extend the sidewalk from Van Nest Park to Trolley Line Trail.

Additionally, turning sight visibility at the Cranbury/Rabbit Hill intersection will be improved as part of the project. As a home owners at the intersection, Travis and I, and our neighbors Don & Ana Reardon, met with WW Township Engineers and Mayor Marathe late August to review the corner in regards to our property and landscaping changes that can improve sight visibility.

All of the above will be included in the design study. We should see an RFP in the Town Council agenda sometime this fall.

Thank you to all who have signed this petition and attended Town Council meetings to advocate for these changes. While the wins above have been approved, we still need to make sure to stay on top of Council and WW Engineers to complete the projects.

We also still have more to achieve, including further reduced speed limit and other efforts to slow traffic, and changes to the Rabbit Hill & Bennington intersections.

I encourage you to attend future Town Council meetings and post in West Windsor Peeps on Facebook to keep focus on Rabbit Hill Rd.

Last, there is a student group at WWPHS North who have launched Safe Strides. As friends of Ananta Ahuja, they desire to continue efforts to improve safety on Rabbit Hill Rd. and other streets in West Windsor. Particularly they want to see Rapid Flashing Beacons at Rabbit Hill/Bennington intersection. You can follow their efforts on instagram @safestrides.nj

More updates to come!
